Black History

Dr. Charles RoudanezThe contributions to New Orleans Plantation Country by "persons of color," both enslaved and free is documented and celebrated in the stories of the people who lived in this area. Throughout the River Parish region, their influence can be felt in the architecture, the food, and the many deep-rooted customs. In fact, Louisiana's well-known Creole culture was and still is influenced heavily by the Africans who were first brought to this region.  Our many attractions offer a view into the unique world of Louisiana's People of Color, seldom seen anywhere else.
